I am just going to offer a few ideas about how to meditate and relax. On the web are
many resources to take you deeper into your understanding of these philosophies.
Meditation is basically sitting in a relaxed position with your eyes closed in a quiet
environment where you feel safe and will not be disturbed for a period of time. How long
you are supposed to meditate is up to you. Sometimes a meditation can last 1-minute or
hours.
One key to a successful meditation is to have a way to focus the mind and filter out
distractions. Many folks use music as I do as described in my pages on Expanding Consciousoness thru Music. I have several music tapes I have designed for this purpose. You can listen to samples of these different albums at my
music site.
Another popular way to focus the mind is to use a mantrum. A mantrum is a phrase
or word repeated over and over in the mind. It must be something that has spiritual
significance to the person using the phrase. I use two different ones - I AM and
ELOHIM. You want to also create a rhythm with your breathing using the mantrum. For instance, when using "I AM," I breathe in on the word "I" and breathe out on the word "AM."
Chanting is another form of a mantrum. It is a wonderful way to focus both the
body and the mind. AUM is probably the most effective where you breath in
through the nose and as you exhale through your mouth you allow the vocal chords to
vibrate in a natural manner creating a tone, the AUM sound. Super effective,
highly recommended by myself, plus it feels really good as you do it. It is really
effective in a group meditation as a focalizer as folks chant in different pitches
creating marvelous harmonies with different starts and stops from each individual
resulting in a delightful chorus. If done in a group, just use this for a few
minutes, the group will create a natural ending.
During the meditation, you can clear your mind, just enjoy music, contemplate certain
ideas or problems, in other words, do whatever you feel you need at the time.
The only difference between meditation and relaxation is during relaxation the person
is specifically trying to affect the body to release tension. However, I recommend
using relaxation as a gateway into meditation. We must first learn to relax the body
before we can work with the mind and spirit. I offer a free download that can assist you
with this called GUIDED DEEP RELAXATION with a free download Rain Forest Meditation.
I hope you find this helpful.
